Welcome to Thursday.
Our Bible passage today is 1 Corinthians Chapter 15 verses 35 to 49, all about resurrection bodies.
The apostle Paul is either answering an actual question from the Corinthian Christians or anticipating a potential one, having spoken so forcefully about the resurrection of the dead in the chapter so far.
‘How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?’ (v.35).
He then uses analogies/comparisons with plant life (vs.36-38), other fleshly beings (v.39), and also celestial beings (vs.40-41), but the conclusion from this, if you like the heart of the passage is vs.42-44.My study Bible very helpfully puts it like this:’God will take a perishable, dishonourable, weak and sinful body (a natural body), and in the resurrection make it an imperishable, glorious, powerful body (a spiritual body). Spiritual body does not mean a non-material body, but yet it will be radically different. There is continuity, but there is also change.’
There is much mystery here, but perhaps the resurrection body of the Lord Jesus gives us a clue – physical and not a ghost, could eat but also seemingly disappear, recognisable to His disciples at times, not recognisable at others. So v.49 summarises, ‘And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man (Adam), so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven (Jesus Chirst).’
Well, lots to think about and chew over today as you do the washing up, walk the dog, catch the bus .
From our extended church address list we pray today for,- Beatrix, Bennet and Emelia- Lynn’s daughter Ellie and her granddaughter Louise.
