Our Bible passage today is Luke Chapter 15 verses 1-2, and then 11-32, one of the most famous stories Jesus ever told.
But our devotional writer concentrates on the reason why Jesus told this story, which is contained in the first 2 verses of the Chapter. The Pharisees were grumbling that Jesus ‘receives sinners and eats with them’ (v.2). But Sinclair Ferguson points out that from Genesis Ch.3 onwards God has been receiving sinners and eating with them! He also wonders whether there is an element of being a grumbling Pharisee in all of us, illustrated by the attitude of the older son in the story who is not happy with the Father’s reaction when the prodigal comes home (vs.28-30).
And so he asks his readers to reflect, ‘How do your actions and attitudes reveal whether you are slaving for God or living as a beloved child of God?’
Just to let you know that Jan came through her operation yesterday, and the surgeons were pleased with how it went. Praying through our extended church address list, we remember today those who came regularly to Here 4 You when it was open, who haven’t been mentioned previously,
