This morning we turn to Mark’s account in Mark 16:1-20.
The original ending to Mark’s gospel has been lost, and verses 9-20 were added later by another author. His was the first gospel to be written, he was in Jerusalem at the time and was very close to all the events. He speaks too of the women being the first to visit the tomb.
An angel tells them that Jesus has risen and invites them to see where he been laid. They are told to tell the disciples. The lost part of Mark’s account is replaced with an account of further appearances of Jesus and concludes with the commissioning of the disciples, His ascension and the beginning of the work of the apostles.
