Daily email Number 265 – from the Vicar

Our Bible passage today is Luke Chapter 18 verses 18 to 30 which Sinclair Ferguson calls, ‘The rich but sad ruler’.
He helpfully takes us through the conversation that this man has with Jesus, and the commandments they mention, and those that are not mentioned! In particular the 10th about not coveting is the one that eventually undoes the man.
Sinclair writes, ‘ … the evidence of his unconfessed failure is that his possessions are bonded to his soul as if with superglue.’Sadly the man couldn’t do what Jesus asked him to do, he could not let go of his wealth, the superglue was too strong – well not by himself. But what is impossible with man is possible with God says Jesus in response to Peter’s question.  He can dissolve the superglue of self and sin.  The good news is that he can release us from bondage.  If only the man had asked for help…
So to reflect, SF asks this of his readers:’A brief life of false wealth is a poor exchange for an eternity of true riches.  Is there anything sticking to your soul with superglue?  Are you prepared to ask Jesus to release you?’
Much for us to think about…

Praying through our church address list, we go back to the beginning again, so please pray today for – Colin & Penny- Martin & Lucie
