Daily email from the Vicar Number 36

In our daily Bible readings I thought we would move on from 1 Peter to 2 Peter, which is a less well known NT letter.
If 1 Peter is about the apostle Peter looking after Jesus’ sheep by helping them and teaching them how to deal with persecution and hard times from outside the church,
in 2 Peter he is teaching them about how to deal with false teachers and evildoers who have come into the church, particularly in Chapter 2 which we will come on to.
So our passage today is 2 Peter Chapter 1 verses 1 to 11.
It reminds us that our Christian life and faith begins with the Lord, His power and His promises, (verses 3-4), but we still have a part to play in our response by adding to our faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance etc etc (verses 5-7).  This I have heard described like a rungs of a ladder which gets taller and taller.
There is lots to ponder here, and as I am having a day off from the daily email tomorrow, you have 2 days to do that(!), I’ll resume again on Wednesday.
In our prayers give thanks that the Prime Minister has recovered and is returning to work, but please pray for real wisdom for the government as they think about the next steps.  Especially as there seems to be lots of mounting pressure from the media and others to make decisions quickly.
In our church address list, please pray for,
– Nova
– Shirley and her family
May the Lord bless us all in this coming week,
