Daily email from the Vicar Number 16

It is Saturday, it is the weekend, but I’m afraid the coach trip to the seaside that I had organised has had to be cancelled because of Government instructions!!
Lovely to see a number of you on my dog walk around kings Heath yesterday, and I caught up with some Here 4 You regulars as well, but Benji (the dog) didn’t like us keep stopping and chatting!
The Leadership Council met for prayer this morning via a computer programme called Zoom, and we were praying for you all.  There were a few technical problems, but we got there in the end, and watch this space, we hope to do something later in the week for as many of you as possible.
Our Bible passage for today is 1 Peter Ch.3 vs.8-22.
There is a lot in this passage (as there is in the whole letter) about ‘doing good’ in different ways, verse 8 gives some examples, ‘live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble’.
But there is also a warning that doing good won’t always be appreciated, especially if we are trying to do good in God’s way.
But remember, although we are rightly encouraged to do good, our good deeds do not save us, but only in believing and trusting in what Christ has done for us, and there are 2 important verses in this passage which remind us of the Gospel and our need to declare it and proclaim it.
‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.’ (verse 15)
‘For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.’ (verse 18)
It is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week tomorrow, and one of the suggestions going around is to put an old Palm Cross, or to make a cross, and put it in a prominent window to show our neighbours and the community around that we as Christians are remembering this special time of year.
Please keep praying for those who are developing various testing things for and from this virus, as well as new machinery and other equipment to keep as many safe as possible.
From our church address list, please pray for,
– Lynn, Paul and family
– The Harle household, Jason, Corette, Pieter, Zarah and Nashe.
