Daily email from the Vicar Number 15

Hope you are keeping well, it has been good to chat to a few of you by phone over the last few days.
Our Bible passage today is 1 Peter Chapter 3 verses 1-8.
In these days it can be seen to be controversial because of the word ‘submissive’ and this isn’t really the time and place to explain that further, but very happy to chat people at a later date about it.
However, I would like to point out that the apostle Peter addresses and challenges both wives and husbands, both have things to learn.
And in particular he urges husbands to be considerate to their wives (v.7), which would have been absolutely revolutionary in those days, and sadly still needs to be stated in many situations today, as you can see from the news.
But for the ladies, note that the apostle encourages beauty on the inside (see v.4), ‘the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight’, which again is still very counter-cultural today with the whole beauty and fashion industries promoting the idea that the outside is what counts.
Both men and women need to learn to appreciate that.
In our prayers, please keep calling out to the Lord for His mercy on us all in these times, and that many would call out to Him for the first time.  Also that He would show us His ways and purposes, and the things we need to learn and the things that we need to repent and turn from, so we can grow closer to Him.
From our church address list, please pray for,
– Kim Bon & Sin Wei,
– Charlene, along with Ariah and Samuel.
Until tomorrow,
God bless,
